A Covid-friendly Valentine’s Day
This year at ISCT, this Valentine’s Day was done a little bit differently. Due to COVID, the year 12’s had to come up with an ordering system on their own . .
For the sake of social distancing, our Year 12’s had to quickly come up with a new online ordering system using a website where you could buy your sweet treats, chocolates and roses. Students also needed to pay R10 in order to wear civvies on Friday. All the money from this event is going towards the Year 12 Matric Dance at the end of the year.
During the day, the year 12’s came around to the classes and handed out the chocolates and sweet treats.
We didn’t have an assembly at the end of the day as we usually do. Instead, the year 12’s spent the last hour of the day giving out the roses to the students with last 25 minutes spent giving cards, roses and chocolates to the teachers and support staff, funded by the Community Service Portfolio in collaboration with the Peer Support Portfolio.
Despite the fact that we are in a pandemic, this Valentine’s Day at ISCT was pretty great. We had a bake sale, which we don’t normally have, and people were still able to give roses and chocolates to those who they wanted to, while keeping to the COVID-19 regulations. We may have not had our yearly Valentines assembly, but at least we were able to spend that time spoiling the people we care about.
