Interhouse Sports Day 2020
On the 5th of March 2020, the high school headed out to Groote Schuur High School for athletics day. When we arrived, the house captains had already hung our team flags and were ready to start.
We started the day off with everyone’s favourite – the mile run – while the houses motivated the runners with their war cries and chants. The track events started afterwards. Students participated in a wide variety of shot put, long jump and sprints. Throughout the day there was no shortage of team spirit and athletic ability, with everyone (including teachers) enjoying their day out of the classroom.
Other than the track events there were also some fun events. Tug-of-war brought everyone’s energy levels up as they cheered or tugged for their team. The sack race relay was a great show of teamwork as each team jumped around and then had to swap it in record time. Sacks were not the only unconventional thing used at sports day, there were also hula hoops. Every house gathered together to do a whole house event., standing in a line and attempting to pass a hula hoop from one end to the other while holding hands. The victorious house for that was Titan, who then celebrated with a whole team chant. The last event was a teacher and house captain relay race. The starters were the father and daughter team. Although Mr James got a head start the house captains ended up beating the teachers. We ended the day with revealing the winners. Once again Orion was handed both the trophies. It was a great day of fun and games.
