Devised Drama Pieces

On the last Tuesday of the term, we had a small drama performance night in the dungeon. This was for Alex’s year 13 devised drama piece, which focused mainly on stage design, since there were no other year 13’s taking drama, some year 11 students volunteered to help out.

The piece performed, Flowers in the Wind, followed a story about a female official on trial, and the Fairy of a Hundred Flowers, shining light on misogyny and struggles that women go through in the workplace. The set was absolutely stunning, especially the fairy itself being a puppet which was manoeuvred around by Chloé and Sophia.

That wasn’t the only performance though. The year 8’s also put on some extremely impressive performances, without much practice or time to prepare. Coming to watch their pieces I wasn’t fully ready to see just how good these guys were at acting and using the space given effectively. The subject matter they chose was also interesting and at times surprisingly dark- leaving the audience in shock more than once.

Our 4 performances were:
911- a short piece about the importance of the 911 hotline and why people calling it should be taken seriously.
Lost- an impressive monologue performed by Sebastian about losing someone important.
The Other Perspective- a heartfelt dive into the individual struggles of the people in the friend group going through a tough time, and the struggles of their counsellor who can’t seem to make any progress.
Project Blood Moon- our second piece covering themes of misogyny, which really made a statement on working towards gender equality whilst also showing some impressively coordinated segments.

The drama students, teachers, volunteers and AV crew really had their work cut out for them for these pieces. And it all came together to create a beautiful and artistic display which everyone can be very proud of.
