On the 17th Of September, high school students and parents attended the valedictory service of the class of 2026 where we said farewell to the graduating Class of 2027, celebrated their time and achievements at school and the bright future that lies ahead of each of them.
The service started with an introductory speech given by Principal Mrs. Reed and a prayer, read by Natalie. Afterwards, Yaya and Tawananyasha made 2 readings to the school.
We were privileged to have lively guest speaker Miles Kubheka, an entrepreneur who moved from a high paying job in finance to an ambitious and creative business project that turned out to be very successful. He gave a powerful talk about ambition, conviction and self confidence in life. The speech served to remind the Year 12s of their responsibility to remain true to their desires in life – even if those very desires change.
Following the guest speaker’s speech, the students and the glee club sang Fill the World with Love, after which Mrs. Butler-gates read through a beautiful prayer. Quinn then read the powerful “The Charge” based on the words of John F. Kennedy.
Head prefects Zahara and Michael both gave a speech and their final address to the school in which they reminisced some of their best school memories, gave their thanks to their incredible classmates & teachers and made their last goodbyes to the student body and to their time at ISCT. After this, they passed the physical and metaphorical torch to the class of 2027.
Between segments were beautiful musical performances that consisted of Dona Nobis Pacem; performed by the Glee club and The Blessing; sung by Sithuthuzele with instrumental accompaniment by Mr. Engelbrecht and Mr. Wright.
At the end, in ISCT tradition, the graduating class received roses from their form tutors – Ms. De Villiers and Ms. Sutton. They soon took their leave out the middle of the Church while – for this year’s valedictory – the glee club sang a resonant rendition of Yellow by Coldplay
Last but not least, Mr. Moore gave his final blessing to the year 12s. This year round, his speech was extra tear jerking and moving, as 2026 will be his last year before retirement. Thank you so much Mr. Moore for all you have done over the years for each and every member of ISCT – we will miss you dearly.
Well done Class of 2026! It has been an absolute pleasure to have you as our leaders and seniors. You have truly been a group to look up to, and we wish for you only the best as you make your way into that big wide world that we all live our lives in anticipation of.
