A Streetcar Named Desire
On the 15th of September, a group of literature and drama students from Year 10 to 12 had the incredible opportunity to watch Tennessee Williams’ “A Streetcar Named Desire” at the Theatre on The Bay in Camps Bay. The Year 10’s are currently analysing this play in literature so seeing it performed by such talented actors really brought the text and characters to life!
After getting some stunning sunset photos outside the theatre and buying some refreshments, we headed expectantly to our seats and waited for the show to start. The atmosphere inside the theatre was beautiful, with intricate set design combined with hazy lighting that created a dazzling atmosphere. Once the show started, we were immediately immersed in the story, and it felt like hardly any time had passed before the intermission. The second half of the play was also incredible, drawing out many emotions from the audience. The night ended with a much deserved standing ovation from the crowd, who were all impressed and in awe of the talent displayed on the stage.
Overall, it was an incredible experience. The quality of the acting was amazing, especially considering the fact that these actors were still learning. Everyone did an incredible job at conveying the many emotions and personalities of the characters and really drawing in the audience.
Thank you to Dr. Du Plessis and Ms. Fisher for organising this trip, it was an unforgettable night!
