Cultural | Interhouse Term 2

If you think back to the distant past of June 2026 (just before the holiday!!) you might remember the last week of Term 2 being a short one, ending the term on the high note of Interhouse Cultural day. The highlight of the interhouse competition calendar for the less sporty among us, the day was filled with excitement and joy. 

Following the first two lessons, the day kickstarted with junior public speakers from Orion and Draco (unfortunately Titan’s candidate was absent) who delivered their prepared speeches on teamwork and the illusion of choice respectively. Well done to Orion for their victory in this category!

Then followed the senior impromptu speeches. These speakers were given about 20 minutes before going on stage to prepare their speeches on purposefully difficult topics: Why it should be mandatory to be married before the age of 25, Why our taxes should be spent on a private jet for the president, and Why veganism should be illegal. All the speakers delivered well put-together speeches which made the crowd laugh. Congratulations to Titan for winning that one!

Finally the senior prepared speeches. All the speakers received the same topic and had two weeks to write and prepare a speech on Ultra-Fast Fashion: Too Good to be True? All the speeches were very well delivered and highlighted the dark side of ultra-fast fashion, but only one could take the crown. Applause goes to Orion once again!

The second and third phases of interhouse cultural day began after first break. Actors and musicians began preparing for their performances later on. In terms of drama, each house randomly chose one of three stories from One Thousand and One Arabian Nights selected by Ms Fisher. The juniors of each house performed the first part of the story and the seniors the second. Draco performed Aladdin, Titan, Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, and the winners, Orion, performed The Seven Voyages of Sinbad the Sailor. 

In and amongst the drama performances was interhouse music, performed in three categories: solo, own composition, and group. Draco won the solo category with a breathtaking performance of ‘My Way’, Orion won the own composition, and Titan the group performance.

Overall, a successful day and an awesome & memorable way to end the term.
