Year 10 Bonamanzi Camp
After a week or two of restless anticipation, the Year 10s left for a three-day camp at Bonamanzi Adventures, located alongside the Breede River. We set off on the morning of the fourth of September, and excitement was high as we packed our bags onto the bus, ready for the journey ahead.
Upon arrival, we were divided up into teams and worked together to come up with and present our respective war cries. The rest of day one was filled with a multitude of fun, with several games, both in our teams and as a grade, that set the camp off to a great start. To finish up the day, we went on a night walk outside the camp, and although recent flooding had changed the terrain a bit, we still managed to navigate our way around without slipping and falling. After a nervously anticipated tick check and some free time, we were more than happy to go to bed and get some rest.
The highlight of our second day was definitely the river rafting, where after choosing our partners and a quick briefing, we set off down the river. After admittedly quite a bit of a struggle, we made it to a sand bank, where we took a break and swam in the water. Heading down the river with the current this time instead of against it, we made it to a massive sand dune. We played around on the dune for a bit before heading back to the campsite. Later that evening, we had the talent show where a wide variety of talents were displayed, from improv to group singing. We ended the day with songs around the campfire and toasting marshmallows.
All around, it was an absolutely amazing camp, and we’re all so thankful to both the camp facilitators, as well as our teachers, for allowing us to have such a fun and memorable experience.
