Year 10 Camp 2021
On the 30th of September, our grade went to Bonamanzi Camp. The surrounding mountains were adorned with snow, making the drive particularly spectacular. Our arrival was characterized by a frigid wind, although we were given a warm welcome and began activities promptly.
The instructors had prepared a mix of teamwork activities, presenting us with various challenges that ultimately helped us understand ourselves and each other better.
That night, we were led on a night hike and, trekking around the encampment, we learnt more about natural resources as well as the variety of wildlife inhabiting the area – which was not limited to scorpions, termites and ticks.
The second day we ventured out onto the river, everyone pairing up in kayaks. Despite the strong current, we were able to enjoy the trip, even attempting to pile up the boats in a precarious tower. Upon return, we could all appreciate the warm showers.
A game of volleyball was erected and, despite difficulties, such as most of us never having played before, it quickly developed into an entertaining game. That evening we watched and participated in a talent show, where we were able to witness the many talents of our peers and teachers.
To conclude that day, we gathered around the warmth of the campfire, toasting marshmallows on a scale of cooked to incinerated.
Overall, the camp was a much appreciated venture and getaway. We learnt valuable lessons over the duration of our time there, and we were able to reflect on the importance of teamwork throughout the grade and life.
The video for Day 1 and Day2 are up too.
