2023 Santa Shoebox
At the end of term 3, the newly appointed members of the Community Service portfolio started with a bang as they began on one of their biggest task of the year – the annual Santa Shoebox drive. Posters were plastered around the school encouraging students and staff to take a tag from the decorated christmas tree in the foyer, and gift a child in need with a present this year.
The Santa Shoebox Project, which originated in Cape Town in 2006 with just 180 shoeboxes, has grown immensely over the past 17 years, with the total number of shoeboxes donated now reaching an impressive 1,152,587! We are truly honoured to support this organisation as an ISCT community.
This year, ISCT was able to collect over 100 shoeboxes filled with all the required items including clothes, stationary, toiletries, treats and a special toy. When the portfolio delivered the boxes on the 31st of October, they were stopped by a civilian wondering about our initiative and we were lucky enough to receive a donation from him which we put towards the contents of the boxes. When we arrived inside the building, the organisers were immensely grateful for ISCT’s contribution, and as we wheeled the seven overflowing trolleys into the venue, their faces beamed with joy.
The Community Service portfolio is tremendously grateful to every single person who decided to take a tag this year, and it is because of all of you that we were able to make a meaningful difference as a school community.
