ISCT’s Master Chef
All term, ISCT’s AS-level students were hard at work fundraising for their Matric dance, culminating on the 14th of June with the Master Chef competition. An ambitious project, the night involved an incredible variety of coordinated elements: a dozen restaurants, dedicated personnel for each, a live stream complete with a journalist and TV anchor, and of course, the all-important judge’s panel. The end result, however, was a fantastic evening for all involved – not least the prize-winners, who received specially printed aprons, restaurant vouchers, and even weekend-long vacations.
Each restaurant, run by groups of ISCT students from around the school, had its own specific theme. Some were wacky – fairy tales and dragons – while others offered old favourites such as Italian or Greek cuisine; all had elaborate and atmospheric décor as dedicated as the food itself. Even the judges, who on account of their own reserved table did not attend any particular restaurant, were highly impressed by every dish that came their way.
There were also options for family and friends who could not attend in person. Not only did remote viewers get an integrated experience of the whole evening by having each restaurant live-stream their own rooms, but they could also watch in-depth reporting from Danielle and news-anchor-style interviews from Ben – each of whom nailed their respective roles. The restaurants also had access to this live stream, offering each room a glimpse into the settings and cuisine next-door.
Additionally, there was much work done in the background. All evening, ISCT’s year 12s rushed around delivering food, ushering, organising the live stream, and problem-solving for any restaurant that needed it. The evening was an incredible logistical task that couldn’t be done without anyone: the AV crew, the waiters, the reporters, the judges, and most of all, the chefs. Congratulations, everyone – on a fun and successful night of fundraising!
