Year 9 Drama Performances : ‘The It’
The Year 9’s have officially started their IGSE course. This week 9SH, a class of 12 students, kick started this by performing their first piece in front of a live audience as official IGCSE students.
They spent hours in and out of school preparing and rehearsing for their performance showing a great deal of dedication and pride.
They acted in Vivienne Franzmann play ‘The It’ telling a multi-faceted story about a young student Grace who suffered from a great deal of anxiety that manifested itself as this creature ‘the It’ inside of her.
The students narrated the various stories online that affected Grace’s mental state while also showing the events that lead up to the climax, a horrid PE lesson where Grace couldn’t contain herself anymore and just let out an endless scream in the middle of the school field.
The class performed brilliantly, capturing the essence of ignorance, confusion, and sympathy from Grace’s peers and Grace’s inner battles against ‘The It’; A realist, dramatic piece, perfectly capturing the effects of unchecked suppression of anxiety.
The night served as a lesson to bridge the gap between Keystage 3 and IGCSE drama as our students progress onto more complex, but elating roads of their academic journey
A resounding applause was given from the audience, we look forward to seeing more.
