Swimming in Athens
Get ready to dive into the exhilarating tale of AquaDolphins’ three-week swimming camp in the vibrant city of Athens. It was an adventure filled with extensive swimming, cultural exploration, open-water challenges, and unexpected encounters!
Our journey began with an overnight flight to Athens, and as soon as we landed, we hit the ground swimming. We were in the pool training just hours after our arrival. Twice a day, we took to the pool, pushing our limits and striving to become stronger swimmers.
Amidst our rigorous training schedule, we had the incredible opportunity to explore the wonders of Athens. We kicked off our cultural exploration with a visit to the Acropolis, a citadel perched high above the city. As we climbed the ancient steps, we were awed by the architectural marvels surrounding us. The Parthenon, with its majestic columns and intricate carvings, stood as a testament to the ingenuity of the ancient Greeks.
Our cultural adventures took an exciting turn as we visited the South African Consulate in Athens and were welcomed warmly by the ambassador, who treated us to high tea.
But our swimming camp wasn’t just about training and cultural exploration. We also had the thrill of participating in an open-water swimming event in the beautiful waters of the Aegean Sea. All of us, as well as numerous Greek swimmers, took on the challenge of racing in open water in 1.25km and 5km events.
Throughout our three weeks in Athens, the pool became our second home. We trained relentlessly under the guidance of our dedicated coaches, who pushed us to surpass our previous bests.
Overall it was a fantastic experience, and we are all so grateful to our coaches for making it all possible.
