Science Expo
On the 18th and 19th of April, the Year 8’s had their Science Expo. After almost four months of hard work and stress, it finally came together.
On the first day, the whole grade gathered in the dungeon to set up at 2:00. There were 37 projects in total, focusing on everything from basil plants to earthquakes and each one was beautifully done. The interviews then proceeded from 3:00-4:00 and 4:00-5:00, the judges being our many wonderful teachers from the science department. Each student was asked a variety of questions over two ten-minute interviews.
On the second day, parents and guests could view the projects before prizegiving. We were lucky to have Dr Jeremy Shelton as our guest speaker; he gave a fascinating talk on freshwater conservation in South Africa, the many precious endemic species we have and the awful truth of their conservation status. After this lovely presentation, the gold, silver and bronze awards were presented along with participation certificates.
Congratulations to the Year 8’s on a fantastic Science Expo, and a massive thank you to the science department, Dr Shelton, and everyone else involved for making this a success!
