Community service – Term 4
Santa Shoebox
At ISCT we do an annual donation drive to less fortunate kids in the Western Cape. We receive cards with the name, age, and size of children and students package gifts for them. This has been an ISCT tradition for more than a decade. It’s so beautiful to see the compassion and care that students have when it comes to uplifting our community. This year we were able to donate 200 boxes to less fortunate children. This event is led by the community service portfolio and they put a lot of hard work into organising and leading this. If you haven’t had a chance to donate this year, donate next year! At ISCT, we pride ourselves in giving back to the community that raised us.
Period Pad Pledge
At ISCT a new donation drive has been put in place. The Period Pad Pledge is a drive where we donate sanitary pads to women and girls who don’t have the means to access them. This drive has been going on for the last couple years and we get more and more pads donated every year. Of the 22 million women and girls in South Africa, 7.7 million or 35% of them do not have the resources or means to access these necessary products. Menstruation is something that we as a society should strive to destigmatize and with this Pledge we are working towards our goal of expanding access to sanitary products and reducing the stigma against periods.
Blood Drive
On the 5th of November we had our termly blood drive. This was facilitated by the Western Cape Blood Service. We had a wonderful turnout with many students and members of staff donating blood. Records show that South Africa regularly faces shortages in blood supplies so we encourage that if you’re eligible to donate then please do! ISCT has a blood drive every term, as mentioned prior, so if you are interested in donating and haven’t had the chance just wait for the following term to participate.
