Year 10 Camp 2023
The year 10s embarked on their annual camp on the 30th of August 2023, leaving bright and early around 8:10 am on Wednesday the 30th. The ride was just over an hour and a half, with one stop where students could get off the bus and do a little shopping.
Once the bus arrived at camp, everyone disembarked and our two camp facilitators introduced the rules. After exploring the campsite and unpacking our bags, we all assembled on the lawn outside for the beginning of year 10 camp 2023!
All the students were sorted into teams, being red, blue, purple, yellow, orange and green. The teams made up chants and then the games began. We did some icebreakers and played loads of team building games. It was very hot, around 30 degrees! Before lunch we played a few water-based games, which ended with everyone jumping in the pool with their clothes on. We had a chicken-fighting competition in the pool; it was so much fun to all be in the pool together as a grade, and it was a great bonding experience full of fun and laughter.
After lunch, everyone was tired, so some people went to sleep in their dormitories. Others brought their sleeping bags and pillows outside to the top lawn. One definite highlight of the camp was these sleeping bag sessions. Most of the grade relaxed outside with their sleeping bags and just talked – some even slept!
After dinner came dormitory time; students went back to their dorms and talked and played games together, which was so much fun.
Thursday 31st August: the campers awoke with the sun as our camp facilitators woke everyone up for tea and coffee at 7am. Today was a lot colder than the first day, however, that did not stop us! After breakfast, everyone got changed into their swimming costumes and rash vests, all ready for our river rafting adventure. The wind was really strong, and at times we were paddling forwards but being blown backwards. The wind even picked up a boat and threw a student into the water! Due to the wind, however, we could not go as far as we had initially planned, but that did not make the river rafting any less fun!
After lunch, once again most people went to sleep, and yet another sleeping bag session on the lawn was formed. After a few hours of free time, the camp facilitators set up a volleyball court on the lawn. Students were divided into their teams and we had a volleyball competition. Soon after, everyone was assembled inside as it had begun to rain. The camp facilitators told us that we were going to have a talent show that night. We were given the rest of the afternoon to rehearse. Groups performed the cup song, a dance routine, and something that was close to martial arts. Our camp facilitators performed an amazing gospel song, which placed them in first place!
The next day (Friday 1st September) brought more cold weather. As it was the last day, students spent the morning before and after breakfast packing up and cleaning their dormitories. We then assembled on the top lawn for camp reflections. We all said one last goodbye to the campsite and facilitators before taking our bags to the small bus and claiming seats on the big bus that would take us home. One last stop on the road to buy some food and drinks and we were on our way home!
It was such an amazing time full of fun, bonding and games. The year 10 camp of 2023 was definitely a success!
