Sunset Concert

The sunset concert was a lively evening filled with excitement and sounds of chatter and laughter. Music played while parents sat comfortably on blankets and camp chairs and children were left to run around the middle field, play frisbee, volleyball, rugby or soccer on the bottom field. The Year 12s were also selling delicious boerewors rolls with great service and care. The menu was versatile including a varied selection of toppings on the rolls along with flavourful snacks and beverages.
The first performances were that of the Ks2 choir, conducted by Mr Wright. The first song was Something just like this by Coldplay and the Chainsmokers, followed by Somewhere only we know by Keane and Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen.
Next the high school performances began with Milan mcing for these after a short intermission. The first high school performance was by the high school choir composed of Sarah, Chloe, Makenzie, AJ, Mailee, Gabby, Acqobile and Lyra singing Ukuthula. The string quartet performance by Jente (violin), Daniel(cello), Amber(violin) and Andraes(violin) was a new addition to the school’s musical department. This performance was coordinated and held together by the formal attire worn by each member, the seamless mood transition from sombre to happy and the beautiful melodic lines as they all performed in unison. Sarah, Bella, Lyra, Aqcobile then performed Birds of a Feather by Billie Eilish incredibly for the audience. Following them was Mirzah and Sam who performed Married with Children stunningly, with both playing guitar and Sam singing. Sithu, Jemma and Sabine then took the stage to perform ‘The adults are talking’ with a rocking twist. ‘Never love and Unanchor’ was performed incredibly by Gabby on vocals, Alex on piano and Mr Wright on guitar before Sabine, Kiara and Issy performed a nostalgic rendition of ‘Teenage dirtbag’. Gabby then have a stunning performance of Hopelessly Devoted to conclude the first half of the evening.
A short 15 minute break was allowed for people to buy from the boerewors roll stand organised by the year 12s before the second half began with a breathtaking rendition of ‘Always me always you’ by Mohsin on guitar. Cantaloupe Island was performed incredibly by Mr E, Kabir, Mr Wright, Jacob, Gavin and Damian. Masquenada and Valerie were the next performances by Lauren and the band. Ending off the night surprise rendition of Mamma Mia by the group that calls themselves the Aquads consisting of Mrs Almino, Mrs Muller, Ms Koleky and Ms Steinmann that had the whole audience of their feet dancing along.
Overall, the sunset concert was an unforgettable evening and we can’t wait to see the next.
