Exclusive Cast Interviews: Alice by Laura Wade
With the debut fast approaching for the much anticipated production, Alice by Laura Wade, put on by Mrs Fisher and the Drama Department. We thought it would be a good idea to see what the cast have been up to, with some cast interviews! And who knows, by the end we have have convinced you dear reader to go see it for yourself.
We met first with Anina, playing the Mum and Queen.
Anina is no stranger to acting, from the screen to the stage, acting has always been a huge part of her life. She loves being able to use her performances as not only creative outlets, but places where she’s met the people which she connects with the most. Her favourite part of preparing for Alice,‘’has definitely been the costumes!’’ No spoilers, but her commanding presence as queen deserves nothing but an equally commanding outfit to accompany it. (picture the ‘’Barbie dress cakes’’ that were an obsession for many of us in our childhoods)
Speaking to her about behind the scenes shenanigans, I did learn that she managed to fall off a table, which if nothing else, should be reason enough to attend the performance to find exactly how or why that happened. Other than the occasional line being enough for everyone to break character, the cast is super close and she mentioned how she loves that almost the whole high school has been involved in the production and people who may have never have spoken to each other otherwise have been able to connect. This is sadly her last performance with school becoming increasingly busy in the upcoming years, so make sure not to miss it!
Describing the production in one sentence for her was, ‘’Strange and extremely fun.’’ She also hinted that her character and the Duchess would have a very chaotic dynamic together. You’ll have to book your tickets soon if you want to be able to see what that’s all about…
Finally the age old question, does she know her lines? After a careful pause of deliberation she replied that she ‘’Hasn’t messed up in rehearsals yet’’.
And of course, describing the vibe of her character in 3 emojis. :♥️😱👑

Up next was the heroine herself, Alice.
When we asked about our lead’s history acting we discovered that she had also been doing it for quite some time, partaking in the Tempest for the Shakespeare Schools Festival last year and loving drama all throughout KS2. She enjoys the physicality of acting and also loves using it as a creative and emotional outlet (having a strong preference for big personalities and complex characters). Despite being cast in the main role, she seemed extremely chill about the whole process! She mentioned that she was less worried about what role she got, more that it was a role she could enjoy herself in, especially the complex and layered character of Alice.
Behind the scenes her friends claim that she, ‘’Has an Alice quote for everything’’ and many things throughout the day set off a ‘chain reaction of dialogue’. She appreciates how natural the dialogue is, whilst also being funny and introspective at the same time.
Describing the vibe of her character in 3 emojis, she chose,’’😱😤😢’’ Alice seems to go through many different emotions in the span of the show.
To sum everything up in the wise words of our Alice herself,‘’’Come and watch the show’’ Tickets are about 50% sold out, so make sure to book as soon as possible

Last but not at all least was Sabine playing the notorious Cheshire Cat.
Sabine, who not only plays the infamous Cheshire Cat – a pretty major role – is also part of the production’s live band. I was, of course, curious as to which was the favourite. To which she said that whilst she enjoyed both, particularly getting to meet new and interesting people all whilst getting engrossed in characters, the music would come out on top.
The all important question naturally followed, ‘Do you know your lines?’. Whilst she did know her lines she admitted to being a little behind on the cues – which she blamed on being in the band.
I asked her what the funniest thing that had happened during the production of the, well, production. Apparently – without any spoilers – there is a dance in the show for which she plays music for, and unfortunately many dancers did not take naturally to it, to her amusement.
Her character, in three emojis was ‘😼🎸’.
To end on a direct quote, “Buy tickets, it’s worth it and amazing!”
We hope you enjoyed the little escapade behind the scenes, and are as excited as we are for the show. Please purchase tickets whilst they are still available, as over half of them are sold out already.
