Liesbeek River Cleanup
On Saturday the 9th of March, over 35 adults and students, including environmental portfolio members and other ISCT students embarked on a journey along the Liesbeek River, accumulating as much litter as possible. We also were able to collaborate with Springfield and were joined by a few of their high school students who helped us clean up all the litter.
To start our morning, we had a group icebreaker to become more familiar with one another. Afterwards, we began right on time, all thanks to our wonderful leaders, André and Maximilian as well as the support from many enthusiastic parents, students and guests. Amazingly, over 5 bags filled to the brim with microplastics (little bits of plastic) and other small litter were collected during the hour-and-a-half duration of our cleanup.
This was an incredible and eye-opening experience for all participants as we trudged through the river bank, soaking in the wonderful naturistic views and getting a more in-depth look at the realities that face our beautiful country’s flourishing fauna and flora and helping in its preservation. Thank you to everyone who came and thank you to those who organised it!
