2023 Clothing Swap
On the 25th of April, the Environmental Portfolio held its long-anticipated clothing swap.
Clothing swaps intend to combat fast fashion – the toxic dyes that get into our oceans and the pollution caused by synthetic textiles, 85% of which end up in dumps every year.
It is the second time this event has been run, the first time being a great success under Talia and Matthew’s leadership last year.
Students exchanged each item of clothing brought in for a ticket, which they could then cash in for whatever took their interest at second break. Clothes were organised and laid out on the chess board by environmental ambassadors.
When the time came, people flooded in, and by the end of break, most clothes were gone, students delighted with what they’d gained for no cost.
The remaining clothes have been donated to U-turn.
Thank you to the environmental portfolio for organising the event!

Other ways you can help reduce fast fashion:
- Purchase clothes second hand
- Donate clothes you don’t want
- Rent clothes you will only wear once
- Purchase more durable clothes not made of synthetic (plastic-containing) material
- Repurpose old clothing
