A Year 8’s Market Day Experience

27 October 2018/ Market Day   

10:00: A fresh start to the day with a breeze in the air, I arrived at school and helped out with our stall and setting up our jewelry/necklaces stand. I’m not going to lie, I looked at some of my other friends’ stalls and how they set it up and it looked pretty good compared to ours. Our stall may not have looked the part but it certainly had the best connection with our customers. Why? Because our products had meanings, for example: the blue stone (chrysocolla) meant ‘turn your dreams into a reality’ which gave the customers an opportunity to actually stop and think about what they need in life, unlike other people who had food which was one gone in a second as if it was ‘take it for free day’ or something.

11:30: As the hour and half passed by, the joy, the vibes of happiness and being part of a family as a school flies around the stalls because it was time for the selling for the year 8s stalls. It was quite like a ghost town at first but it started to kick off and became massive mayhem as I saw kids and parents and grandparents come running down the stairs (maybe the parents but definitely not the grandparents) to come look at all of our attractive stalls.

11:31: My stomach starts to growl, giving me the sign to go and try other people’s foods. My first stop of 14 other stops was at Sam’s sushi. I have to be honest, the sensation, the texture and the purity of those sushi rolls were unbelievably amazing!! Then I stopped and quickly checked out some of the other cool stalls like Stephani’s and Talia’s space stall – they were selling space cakes, space brownies and most importantly the space galaxy t-shirts, which were amaze-balls!

14:00: At this time of the day it started to die down a bit and the afternoon became a bit more chilled, as in we didn’t see anymore kids running around because they were all attracted by the performances on the top field. Then, while we were starting to pack up- by then, most of the year 8 stalls were sold out- there were little skits that were made by the year 9’s and there were paintings and decorations of all the years work in class from the whole year. I left a bit early but I am hundred and one percent sure that it continued on being an amazing and an eventful afternoon to the very last second.

Overall, I had a great time setting up and making connections with our customers and overall gaining a great new experience and learned a lot more about marketing and in business.
