Hawks’ Day 2025
On Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th, ISCT participated in the annual Derby Day, competing with AISCT and Michael Oak in a number of cultural and sports competitions. On Friday, we celebrated Hawks’ Day, in honour of our school team.
The day started off with celebration on the loggia. Ms Möller and Mrs Armino were doing face paint, and there were a number of different opportunities to make beaded bracelets and necklaces, as well as hair ribbons to show our support for the Hawks. The good old JBL boombox was out, and music was blasting, bringing up the vibes.
This was followed by a joint assembly for all of high school, in which Coach Illona announced the captains of the sports teams. Congratulations to Yaya (Y11), Chloe (Y9), Ziggy (Y11), Bonolo (Y8), Layla (Y7), Sarah (Y7), Mia (Y8), and Michael (Y11), for being named captains of their respective sports teams. After the captains each offered a few words of motivation, our house captains proceeded with a chant practice. The whole high school was belting out the words to chants like ‘Stick’ and ‘Who flies the highest in the sky?’
At second break, the Y11s fired up their boerewors roll stand with the aromatic scents wafting around the school. As well as this, a competition was held by Virgin Active on the bottom field. Music was once again playing, and the whole school was starting to feel the anticipation of Derby Day.
After school ended, many students stayed to support the Hawks for the beginning of Derby Day. AISCT and Michael Oak began arriving at about 2:30, and the opening ceremony began at 3:30. All the ISCT students who were at school gathered on the Music Room stairs and began a chant of ‘Hawks!’ before being led out onto the field by the house captains. Each participating school presented a cheer, but I think everyone who was there on the day would agree that the Hawks’ cheer was the best; a medley of ‘Stick’, ‘Who flies the highest in the sky?’ and ‘Are they ready?’.
The winners for the cultural event are as follows:
Debate: ISCT
Chess: ISCT & AISCT
Music: Michael Oak
All in all, it was a fantastic day celebrating our school team. Go Hawks!
