Class of 2025 Valedictory

Last week on the 18th of September, ISCT students and parents gathered at Saint James Church to celebrate and host a farewell to the graduating Class of 2025 with a ceremony filled with emotion, endearing speeches and prayers, as well as heartfelt singing.
The evening opened with a warm welcome from Principal Mrs Reed, setting the tone for the night which flowed into student-led performances, with songs sung together by the entire school to honour the Year 12s on their special day, Fill the world with love and the traditional Gaudeamus Igitur to recognise their achievements, as well as an impressive set from the ISCT Glee Club.
A highlight of the evening came from the guest speaker, who is still proudly able to fit into his school blazer: Kyle Overmeyer. He delivered an inspirational speech reminding everyone of the importance of holding onto their individuality after they’ve left high school as he gave anecdotes about his trademark earrings. It served as not only a reminder to the Year 12s to always stay true to their beliefs and values even after leaving the structured school environment for the more chaotic and oftentimes messy real world, but also to encourage students to consider what they believe to be an integral part of who they are.
A special thanks to all the Year 12 students and Miss Everett who prepared motivational readings, prayers and the powerful piece “The Charge” – based on the words of John F Kennedy, the 35th president of America, for speaking in front of the school, passing on motivation not just to the graduating class, but all the younger years as well.
All of this set the tone for the head prefects, Jacob and Bree, who officially signed out. In each speech, they represented a true show of community and pride, honouring both their fellow class but their teachers as well, eliciting tears from both parties. They closed by passing the torch, both metaphorically and physically, to the next group of leaders.
These emotions continued to run high as Dr Doyle, and Mr Munyarari presented roses to the Year 12 students during a touching musical tribute, honouring them as they stepped forward, in front of their form class one last time. Closing speeches from Mr James, and Mr Moore, accompanied by an unforgettable surprise performance of the Haka by Mr Tait, brought the ceremony to a powerful close.
The night was a true celebration of the Class of 2025 – a year group remembered for their spirit, leadership, and sense of community. As they embark on new journeys, the whole school wishes them nothing but success. They will be deeply missed.
