Year 7 Poems: Red
The Year 7s wrote about the colour Red in their English classes. They only had an hour to write these, and we were so impressed with the quality of their work that we’ve decided to publish what we selected as the top three poems. Well done, Year 7s!
Poem by Benedetta and Arya
Red is a rose in the midst of a battle
Scarlet is the blood dripping from the soldier’s wounds
Mahogany is the arrow piercing through the enemy’s skin
Rust red is the sunset that falls upon this day of brutality
But red is also the soldier’s passion igniting the flame of hope
Crimson is the fire of perseverance burning in their hearts
Sangria is the final pulse as the enemy falls
Garnet is the cries of victory as the trumpets blare
Carmine is the love for their family that carries them home.
Poem by Katie and Kristen
Red is the warning that keeps me awake.
Red is the cold, harsh taste of fate.
Red has been told to be the colour of love,
But the way I see it, it’s the colour of hate
Red is the reason that I miss you.
Red is the reason I hate the view.
Red is the only I think,
Red is the only thing that I drink.
Red is the petals of the fallen rose.
Red is the one that I chose to love,
Red is the thing that left me like a flying dove.
Red is a heartbreak, red is a curse.
Red is a crime that keeps me on target.
And though I know red is only a wish,
I still think of it as something that may be dead.
I still sleep with so much dread.
As red is the one who broke my trust,
I try and try to forgive my love.
Of all the things that I have done,
Red must be by far the worst one.
Poem by Andreas
Red is heat, defeated by water,
Red are the poppies, three field and a quarter.
Bright red is the sign, at the door of the bar,
Bright red is a Ferrari, an expensive sports car.
Scarlet is the Macaw parrot, its wings spread wide apart,
Scarlet is a Dahlia, a wonderful piece of nature’s art.
Pink is a flamingo, its honk loud and powerful,
Pink is a river dolphin, not often considered beautiful.
Red is the setting sun, unseen by parts of the world,
Although red in all its beauty, has not yet been unfurled.
