Girl’s Basketball Highlights

The girl’s basketball team has been playing valiantly throughout this entire term, shown through the various matches. 

The season started off with the Girl’s U14 basketball team playing AISCT, the team fought their hearts out during the entirety of the match, and although they lost 9-12, Matida in Year 9 managed to close the match off with a spectacularly done 3 pointer that stunned the crowd. Well done, Matida!

To follow that loss, the U16 and U19 girls also went up against AISCT; however, this time they won both matches, despite initial fear of losing. It’s safe to say that those emotions and worries expressed at the beginning of the match were gone by the final countdown. 

Next up in the season, the U16 and U19 girls played against Bergvliet. The girls played amazingly despite several odds stacked against them. In particular, Tanatswa in Year 12 played incredibly throughout the entire U19 match, scoring many points for the team. Unfortunately, the U16 team lost their match with 10 -13 as the final result; however, the U19 game turned those results around and won their match with a staggering result of 57- 4. Well down to both teams!

After that match, the U16 and U19 teams played again, this time against Heiderveld. Both matches were lost unfortunately against the opposing team, but many left that match feeling proud of the effort put in.

Finally, the U14 and U16 girls played against Herschel. The U14 team lost their match once again, but the U16 girls won theirs. The tactics used by the team were carried out beautifully as they continued to add points for the team. In particular, Imogen in Year 10 played incredibly, intercepting many passes successfully to prevent the other team from scoring by also scoring many baskets herself. The highlight of the game was a move done by Imogen in the second half of the match. Due to having the opposing team blocking any efforts forwards to the goal, she passed the ball backwards to one of the girls on ISCT’s team in a risky gamble to get the ball to the basket. The move was successful and ISCT added another point to their score while spectators remained stunned by what was just done.

Overall, the girls from all the basketball teams have been playing an excellent season, and as it comes to an end, one hopes it will continue on to the next. Well done to all the girls for all their hard work!
