Year 8 Camp 2024
The Year 8 camp to Stellenbosch began on the 7th Feb 2024 and ended on the 9th of Feb, and it truly was a memorable experience.
Upon arrival, students were given the camp rules, and then time to spend sorting out and setting up the dorms. Once everybody had come back to the common area, the fun began by playing some icebreakers outside on the lush, green field. These included: Akkazoa, Say your name, Left right, and fruit salad, which helped determine the groups they would be in for the duration of the camp.
The day was jam-packed with team-building activities, most notably, a game which consisted of passing a water bucket over your heads to fill the bucket at the end of the line; unfortunately, the buckets had holes in them and everyone got soaked!
After the numerous activities, there was a relaxing dinner and some fun games to end the night; a dance party in the dark with torches, and a round of stalk the lantern in the crisp evening air.
The next day started with a bang, with students waking up at 6 am to partake in a fun yet exhausting hike. The trail began on the road and led up to the top of the mountain nearby, around 5km away. The scenery and feeling of the cool morning breeze as students hiked through nature while chatting with their friends is an experience that won’t soon be forgotten!
After getting back and having a hearty breakfast, more team-building games ensued. The games were many; but whether it was the hula hoop challenge, guiding your blindfolded friends to victory, or making giant towers out of wooden planks, everyone had a blast!
When the activities had worked up a sweat, students got ready to cool down by having a refreshing dip in the cool river over by the back, and held numerous splash fights!
After that, most were quite tired and got time to relax, eat lunch, and chat with friends before proceeding to the afternoon’s activities. The highlights of these turned out to be a squid game bridge-style challenge in your teams, dodgeball, interviews with the facilitators, and a somewhat spinoff of musical chairs.
The night ended with a warm cup of hot chocolate, and a lovely bonfire outside. Songs were sung, memories were made, and tears of joy were shed. Lead4Life showed the Year 8s an incredible time, one that will remain in their hearts for some time.
The next morning was a blur of packing, hasty rounds of ping-pong and foosball, and a few final activities together. Everybody was excited to go home, but the leave was bittersweet.
