Term 4 Music Concert
On the evening of Thursday 9th of November, the cultural portfolio ran the final highschool music concert for the year, and rest assured 2023 sure went out with a bang! As Mr Engelbrecht mentioned in his heartfelt welcome and introduction, 2023 has been a remarkably successful year in terms of ISCT’s cultural achievements. For example, countless music concerts were held, a school-wide talent show was widely acknowledged, an enchanting evening art exhibition and the first exclusive red-carpet premiere of the prestigious Year 9 movie projects!
Our MCs Keira and Dakota kicked off the night by introducing our first 3 performers. Sithutuzele took first to the stage with a charming rendition of ‘A Day in the Life of a Fool’, then Jaydha with ‘No Moon Tonight’ on the piano followed by Nakiso who treated us to a captivating violin piece of ‘Sunday on Fifth Avenue’.
For our next group of performers we witnessed a vibrant Ella playing ‘Disco Baroque’ on the piano, a groovy guitar performance of Bob Marley’s ‘Jammin’ by Kyle, and a mesmerising rendition of Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ by Inaya on the piano.
For our next three acts, the audience was treated to a selection showcasing just how versatile pieces on a guitar can be! First we had Olivier with a powerful performance of ‘Zombie’ by the Cranberries on electric guitar, a sweet and mellow performance of ‘Brown Eyed Girl’ by Ella and lastly a truly captivating performance by Evan and his teacher of ‘The Star of County Down’.
Within the blink of an eye, Inaya was back on stage with a rhythmic and infectious cover of Camilla Cabello’s ‘Senorita’ on the guitar, followed by another fan favourite Queen’s ‘under pressure’ also on the guitar by Yaya-Leigh, and then a soulful violin piece of ‘Arioso’ by Andreas to calm the mood. Next Matida treated us to a throwback performance of ‘Dead Flowers’ by the Rolling Stones on the guitar, Emily with a tantalising performance of ‘Spray Mist’ on the piano and Matida back on stage with an eerie ‘Russian Agent’, this time on the piano.
Just as quickly as it had begun, the night was coming to an end as our MCs welcomed our final three performers, and the pianists were ready to close the show! Nowethu was up with “Rondino’, followed by Heloise with the dreamy ‘SüBe Träumerei’ and then Jacob stunned with his excellent skills to close off with ‘Rumba Toccata’.
Wow! What a night it was! Our extraordinary music teachers were invited to the stage for a group photo and received a standing ovation for their tremendous contribution to ISCT’s music department, and passion for the musicians of tomorrow. The night concluded with a speech by Mrs Reed acknowledging all the hard work that had gone into this incredible night – notably Mr Engelbrecht, all the music teachers, the Cultural Portfolio, the dedicated AV team lead by Mr Hillebrand and most importantly the fantastic musicians.
