Community service during the holidays:
Kalk Bay Beach cleanup:
On the 12th of December Sophia, Masego, Arin, Seojin, Soeun, Giammaria and Isabella went to a Kalk Bay harbour for a beach cleanup. Together with everyone who attended the cleanup, we filled several big plastic bags, and spent a wonderfully sunny morning on the beach, helping the environment. A great start to the holidays!
Lifeguarding at Clifton:
Over the course of the holidays Talia spent 28 hours serving as a lifeguard at Clifton beach.
Uturn clothing donations:
During last year, Benjamin organised a clothing and bedding drive for Uturn. He arranged for Uturn bins to be put in the parking lot of St James church, and then hosted a drive through drop off. He also made a video to advertise the event, as well as doing a flyer drop-off around the neighbourhood. Fortunately, the project went really well, and he collected 30 black bags of clothing, 14 items of bedding and some food. The hours he spent on this initiative also went towards his president’s award.
Masiphumelele fire relief:
During the Christmas / New Years period I(Sophia) helped out at Living Hope, together with Rovers from the Two Oceans district to put together food packs and organise donations for the residents in Masiphumelele who lost their houses in the fire. We also loaded trailers and bakkies that then went into Masiphumelele to distribute the food bags that we put together to the people there.
Well done to anyone who participated in community service during the holidays, and we encourage you to keep helping the community this year!
