Movie Awards 2025

This week, Tuesday the 14th, ISCT hosted the 3rd annual Year 9 Movie Awards at the Nassau Center to celebrate the tireless efforts of the Year 9 class as they wrote, directed, edited and acted in their very own movies. The movie project is a way for the Year 9 students to combine their ICT, music, drama and English skills into one massive project requiring months of dedication and hard work. This year’s movies were nothing short of incredible; with it being extremely clear that passion and care were put into each and every one of them.
The evening was a red carpet affair, with paparazzi stationed outside the entrance and everyone dressed to impress. After walking the carpet and signing a couple autographs, guests were treated to drinks and an appetising arrangement of numerous different snacks. Interviews were conducted with the stars while guests took in the magnificent atmosphere of the venue; decorated magnificently with movie posters, balloons and strings of stars adorning the walls.
Finally, it was time for the event to begin, commencing with a screening of every group’s movie. The lights of Nassau Center dimmed and the screen lit up, each film was presented and each one reflecting the weeks of hardwork, planning, creativity and collaboration. The variety of genres was truly impressive – though did raise concerns into the inner workings of a year 9 mindset, from suspenseful detective thrillers, uncanny stalker tales, tense horror to more lighthearted comedies that had the audience laughing.
As the night progressed, we were treated to an inspiring talk from Andy Mulligan – renowned writer, screenwriter, director and teacher. He praised the exceptional creativity shown by the Year nines. Though more targeted to the Year nines, he shared an important message, encouraging everyone to continue exploring their artistic talents.
Later Retaya, former ISCT student and current ISCT Alumni, took the stage. She shared her journey, from the impact of taking on her first editing role in a project similar to this, to where she is now. She spoke passionately about how the process of filmmaking helped her discover her own creative voice, and how she would share this passion with others; from joining movie festivals to hosting and planning them, all while writing exams. Her heartfelt speech served as a reminder of how projects such as these, can be impactful beyond the classroom – shaping confidence, teamwork, and personal growth.
Finally it was time for the awards themselves. Congratulations were in order for all the nominees and winners, whose dedication and talent shone through in every frame. A very well done to all the Year Nines who received awards, your hard work was more than obvious when watching your movies. And a special congratulations to the winners of the “Best Film Award”. There were so many amazing movies that the judges weren’t able to just award one – both “ Unspoken” and ‘’Hide and Seek’’ won this title, and each team member made their way to the stage, ready to receive applause from proud teachers, parents and peers.
A massive thank you goes to Ms Fisher, Mr Engelbrecht, Mr Hillebrand for encouraging the students every step of the way and coordinating the whole project. As well as everyone who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to help set up the venue and equipment, making sure the experience went as smoothly as possible. Congratulations again to the Year 9s for all of your amazing movies!
